Clean Water

The kids at Escuela Magueyes in Guatemala had a source of drinking water at their school, but the shallow well at the school depended on an electrical pump, and the power shuts off almost daily in southern Guatemala. So, the kids would often run next door to a local farm, where an open well gave them access to ground water about 3 feet below the surface.

After several months, a teacher decided to check the well and discovered a dead cat floating in the water. She contacted Living Water International, to request a deeper well for cleaner water. We traveled to Guatemala to drill the well with the local LWI team.

This school is situated on a busy road, so after our hand-pumped manual well was installed, this school became a very popular place. Hundreds of people stop every day to pump clean water.
